Daughter of Song is a truly remarkable book — gripping, earnest, deeply researched, and elegantly written. It is a triumph of genres ranging from investigative reportage and ethnographic study to family history and appeal for social justice. Doug’s ability to combine all these into one book is a testament to his versatility as a writer. Moreover, the narration is superb in every respect. All in all, this is one of the best of the dozens and dozens of audio books I’ve listened to in recent years.
