For the last couple years I enjoyed dozens of LitRPG books. They appeal to both the kid in me that used to play D&D and the engineer in me that likes to have defined, consistent rules. This book was extremely well thought out with the perfect blend of back story, mystery, adventure, back stabbing, intrigue, and action packed scenes. You know it’s good when you listen to your audiobook while at the gym instead of loud music.

And Jeff Hays, the narrator, is amazing. He tends to be the default voice for books like these and I could not be more thrilled. If you liked him in this one, I encourage you to seek out others he voiced.

I won’t go into overflowing praise for the book, detailing all the ways I enjoyed how the author introduced us to this world, by this point if you are still reading, stop and get the book, start listening…

I will say there were two things that slightly disappointed me. Typically in books like these they introduce a potential significant other for the main character and the courtship throughout the book can lend itself to some fun and interesting scenes, so I found myself saying, is this her, is this her, and was presently surprised to be wrong on basically all accounts. The second issue I have is that when I stumble upon a gem like this, having many books purchased but still not listened to, I always assume that I will be able to continue the story, but there is no book 2 out yet. That was very disappointing.

Anyway, bottom line is, get the book, it’s really good. Take my word for it, we’ve never met 🙂
