I realize this is an accomplished author, but this book reads like it was written at a high school level. Perhaps this was an early work? Nothing very complicated, nothing really engrossing, uninteresting characters, unimaginative dialogue. Maybe it was the result of the laid-back narrator, but this story comes off as boring. Not much happens until the final attack, but by then I didn’t care anymore. I see that this is the first in a series. Unfortunately, the next book is already in my Audible library.
