This is not your run-of-the-mill post apocalyptic novel. You can definitely tell that it was written by a woman, and that’s not a bad thing. Obviously the point of view expressed by the main character, a woman, is a reflection of the author. As such, Meg was more believable as were most of the other women in the story. Post apocalypse literature tends to present women as damsel in distress and frequently rather two dimensional. That was not the case in this series of books.

I was disappointed in Wyatt, the supposed ex Navy seal Who,s demanding and extensive training in the military seems to have essentially abandoned him once he got out. Although the author tried to present the male characters as “manly“, she ends up doing so in a fairly flat to dimensional manner.

Overall, it was OK, but certainly not the best post apocalyptic books I’ve ever read or listened to.

Don’t expect to learn much of anything about prepping, hunting, or wilderness survival in general from these books.
