The story itself is fine. It’s the characters that annoy me. Their personalities are lacking uniformity. They behave in ways that seem to be in direct opposition to how they have been presented previously. And the females in the story are supposed to be tough I suppose, but as a female myself, I would want to smack them. They are in equal measure mouthy, judgemental, and idiotic. The main male character, Mike, is portrayed as essentially a weakling but miraculously will challenge armed military personnel and can perform emergent care despite no training and his experience as a sales guy for a radio station. What? I won’t be getting book two, and I am a little disappointed in the time I spent on this one.
