I watched the YouTube cold read by Jeff Hays and he’s got to be the GOAT. Every voice is his own and his range is just breathtaking. His dedication to delivering every line Just Right is one of the best things EVER. Watching him legit spin in a chair to get rolling sound effects for Samantha was probably one of the funniest things I’ve seen all year. Also, the continuity of the individual voices throughout every book is just… *chefs kiss*
The pain and passion experienced by every crawler is apparent, and Matt Dinnimin is a visceral and descriptive writer, never once pulling his punches to your Feels. Every character has depth, which is a mind boggling feat of awesome. I may very well actually be in love with Carl. Seriously, I love everything he does. I’ve long since thought that while his Intelligence stat isn’t naturally very high in the Dungeon, his Wisdom is off the charts even if we can’t see the stat itself.
This is the ONLY series I intentionally listen to the End Credits. How else would I actually hear Donut SING?! Thanks Jeff!!! Our Princess got a lot of screen time in this book and I’m glad that she hasn’t fallen behind. Her character growth is astounding, as is Carl and everyone else but seriously- Donut is a cat. It would be easy to stunt her or change her to fit better. But she is unashamedly herself and owns her victories and flaws.
I overlooked this series for a long time, but now I’ve found it and listened to it over and over, I have to say: BEST series I’ve ever listened to. This book was HUGE by the way, with very little filler fluff. When information is given, I really appreciate the fact that it’s useful and relevant- even if it’s later down the line. Little bits here and there come together and always make something great. Thank you guys for your time and effort, you’re amazing and have created a masterpiece. I can’t wait for the next book!
