I’m a high true crime fan and I’ve both read and looked at gnarly stuff. For some reason the descriptions of sexual assault felt really icky. They were overtly sexual rather than a removed description of a sexual assault experienced by someone. It’s also weirdly dated/uncomfortable in regards to race and gender and often feels misogynistic for something that was written in 2015. I often found myself cringing for a lot of these reasons. I wish it was more survivor focused or even more respectful of the survivors. There are plenty of other amazing true crime books out there, I would skip this one and go for “I’ll Be Gone In The Dark” by Michelle Macnemera
