Morningwood: Everybody Loves Large Chests is a LitRPG. It plays out from the perspective of characters in an RPG video game with the small twist that it never acknowledges this fact. The overall result is the inclusion in the story of fourth wall breaking discussions of game elements like hit points, character traits, status windows, and the like, which the characters take as normal parts of their natural world.
The first couple of chapters of the story will have you puzzlingly saying "Wait? What?!?" over and over until your mind accepts the absurdity of the book’s unique perspective. Give in to the dark side and all will be well.
The story is a serviceable power up fantasy trip. I say this to be descriptive, not maligning. I never though my overall rating could ever be higher than my story, but here I am. This book is just fun. That’s all you need to know. I laughed. I was shocked. And 8 hours 23 minutes went by way too fast.
Warning this story has dark and off-color humor that won’t be to everyone’s tastes. Keep children far away unless you like having very awkward conversations with them about morality, kinky sex, and certain bodily secretions.
