I have to say that even though the characters were a bit flat/one-dimensional, and there were often survival info dumps dressed up as dialogue, I still enjoyed American Exit Strategy quite a bit. Of course much of that is due to Kevin Pierce’s narration. I always enjoy his work. But it wasn’t just Pierce’s vocal work, the story itself was enjoyable. Mark Goodwin takes on the unique twist of economic collapse for this survival novel, showing how a crumbling economy can be just as devastating to the country as an EMP or nuclear strike. As I mentioned many of the characters are one-dimensional, more caricatures really (most characters are either ‘good’ or ‘evil’, Everything seems black or white, no gray area) but that being said I actually like a number of them and look forward to seeing what happens to them next.
