This is NOT for people who only enjoy (irl) religion and magic in their sci-fi sparingly.

I’m not above sci-fi and fantasy crossing over every now and then, Vinge’s Zones of Thought series (A Fire Upon the Deep) are amazing works, and there are lots of interesting ways to incorporate religion into SF, a la Battlestar Galactica, but the author was too heavy on religion and such for my liking. There are lots of fun bits here and there that I enjoyed, but in the end, the magic and Christianity were too much for me to get past.

I really wanted to like the book because it had so many interesting ideas and fun characters… but, in the end, this book is basically a D&D campaign that just doesn’t quite translate into a book that I couldn’t enjoy.
