I’ve come to absolutely love Morin’s Twinborn series, after being hooked on his Galaxy Outlaws series and the 2 spinoff thereafter. I didn’t know what to expect when I started Twinborn but after a few chapters I really started digging the first books of this series. Sadly, this 3md set of this series was a lot more difficult to get through. I think its partly inherent when you deviate from a “simple” 2 world idea, which took some time in the 1st set to get used to, and expand to a 3rd (and maybe more?) world. thankfully there weren’t triplicate born beings! but it tool nearly the entire 4th book (first book of this 2nd set) to circle back to any of the characters from the 1st 3 books (1st set of this series). to me that was too long, but I do get character development. still, the first 3 books were SOOOOO GOOOOOD and while eventually the new characters introduced here crossed paths with some of the original characters, it would have been nice to blend them together a bit earlier. it was quite confusing at first. And the action was slower than I had hoped for with how the first set developed. eventually this 2nd set got into a groove, but the gears were never really as nicely oiled in this set as the 1st….to use a tinker expression ;). all in all it’s good. just got spoiled with the first set and the galaxy outlaws series. I will say I didnt much care for the other book series from Morin/Larkin with the female protagonist. I only do audiobooks these days and I gave that one a couple of hours. maybe it was the narrator. just couldn’t get into it. this one wasn’t as bad. but it didnt suck me in like the 1st set of this series did or Galaxy Outlaws did. Mikael Narramore is THE BEST narrator bar none I’ve EVER listened to…he does female voices very well even if he has maybe “only” a half dozen of so female accents. but hes got a good dozen or more Male accents and altogether has to be able to make 20+ various accents and nuances of voices which REALLY makes the story come to life! in fact I liked him so much i tried another book series by a different author, and while Narramore was solid, I think it was before his works with Morin or maybe the story from the other author just didn’t click the same. ended up not getting much past the first hour or 2 of that series either before giving up on it. hope this helps someone decide whether to invest 44 hours of listening for this 2nd set of the Twinborn series! i think it’s worth it but just not quite as good as the original set…
