I expected a moderately degenerate, entertaining, pun-filled exploration of RPG culture.

What I’ve got is a mediocre audio book that is mostly not very entertaining. It has its moments though. I’ve had a few times I’ve just laughed out loud, driving down the road listening to it.

It’s not exactly the same market, but I compare this to the Noobtown series which is exceptional.

It feels to me like there was a goal of getting through a story line, which is good, but it became prominent over the goal of making each scene entertaining. Most I listen to, I find myself not really caring.

With any literary work, there have to be some creative liberties taken. In this case I feel like some of the liberties taken (I don’t feel like I should go into detail here) are not just smoothing the scene into the story, or similar normal function, but simply avoiding any thought about how things work at all.

It’s kept me from falling asleep for some car trips, but more often from frustration of how things are put together than from genuine entertainment value.
