The broken use of tense in this book is so distracting that I couldn’t get into the story at all. The story is mostly written in first-person present tense. Sometimes on interludes it switches to third person past tense. I can’t stand present tense in a work of fiction. But it’s even worse in this book because the author will switch tense in the middle of sentences!
I’m pretty forgiving with LitRPG books because many of the authors aren’t professional writers, but they are good story-tellers. So I’m willing to suspend criticality and just lose myself in the story. But the lack of a basic command of the English grammar makes that impossible in this case.
