IMO, the action isn’t captivating or intense. If you just want a simple storyline, that is sequentially timed, then this is for you.

I just expected more from the book’s summary. There was too much detail for inconsequential moments & not enough detail in important areas; which left me not feeling fully engaged.

I couldn’t form a bond with these characters, that great books give you within the first few chapters. For instance, I’m waiting for a new book release from an author that wrote a reverse-harem series; which is typically not my go-to subgenre, yet I gave it a try (like I did with this series). In that series, you are painted a picture of a heartwrenching story full of emotional ups & downs that are not cookie-cutter predictable. Then the narrator brought the story to life. She had to of actually read the story before recording; because she nailed it with character voices, tone, everything! It felt like the narrator actually took pride in doing her job well. I binged all available books in one weekend.

Yet in this book, the narrator had a snobby, over exaggerated tone that had me coming close to returning the book; but was able to finish. There were moments I heard her voice sound normal; which made me realize she was forcing that sound instead of narrating in her own voice. Forcing it makes people sound like annoying cartoon characters.

I’m going to try the next book to see if the story gets better for me.
