For a book only extending past the four hour mark, the reminder that the author has a previous and more informative book that this is a companion to, occurs an astonishing number of times throughout. Even more infuriating is the full title of the previous book and it’s release year are usually articulated on each occasion. Buy the book- we get it. A preface explaining that this is a sparse companion book would’ve cleared that up in one 20 second mention upfront.
The new information, buried stories, etc are pretty minimal and seldom have enough weight to them to go into any kind of deeper analysis. Much of the book simply feels like an author still trying to unpack the exhausting toll this research undoubtedly took on him over the years.
Not a horrible book or listen but i only recommend this to those who are deeply interested in this case and looking for any scraps still left to consume.
