This story is no longer about Spot. It’s about B the church leader who is better at everything than anyone else and everyone loves her for it. Even her pet god Spot rarely goes a moment without thinking about how great she is. In the first book B was a spoiled kid neglected by her father and dissatisfied with having to work as a maid and not being given the mages’ secrets on day one. She takes her faith in her own hands and seeks out this power every chance she gets. When she faces death, she chooses to bind her soul to an evil demon despite knowing she will be used as a tool to harm humanity. She grows to worship the magnificent evil black disk and through her worship finally finds the power she’s been searching for.

Jump to book 3, less then a year later and B is a self sacrificing church leader with vast knowledge of history, alchemy, healing and other kinds of magic, even those lost. She has also managed to become the greatest warrior of her generation. The list of her sudden talents is too long to fit in this review. Where did that flawed but real character go? This is just a Mary Sue.

The narration was fine.
