I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. This was such a great book, I’m surprised I haven’t already read/listened to it. JCP writes one of my favorite series, PsyCop, but I’m glad that I have the chance to do it now. The world is rich and vibrant if a bit on the dark side, but so interesting you can’t help but be sucked in. I wanted to know more about how the V-virus started and when. Even without knowing any of that, I wanted to get to know about Mark and Jonathan more. They have a really interesting dynamic and you want to watch them figure each other out and you really want them to get together. While this is a romance book, there’s a lot of action in it too. JCP knows just how to keep you on the edge of your seat one minute, relaxed and enjoying two people figuring each other out. I really want to go back to this world, I want to see more and that shows just how good JCP is at writing. I love Mark’s snarkiness, it fits his personality well without going overboard. Some authors can let the snark get to the point of annoying but Mark’s doesn’t. It’s a nice bit of humor to offset the rest of the story. I definitely have to commend Mr. Leslie’s narration also. At first, I wasn’t sure if I liked his style but the more I listened, the more I liked. He helps bring the characters to life, giving them their own unique voice so I never had a problem knowing who was talking. He even does accents well, I loved Jonathan’s voice especially. If you want a really intriguing story with a lot of snark, a good amount of romance and about vampires that are different and unique, you need to listen to this book.
