The main character is a beautiful blonde with huge breasts. I know this because it’s in the first 3 sentences of the novel. And other characters comment on it incessantly. She’s got a heart of gold, and a troubled past. Her enemies are tall, mustache twirling men, who are evil – and not in a sort of surprise, twist, way. No, they’re evil in the way they’re set up as from the drop. Which is what I was let down by – if they had been evil in some ‘different’ way, or just ‘doing the right thing, but really stupid’, that would have been more interesting. But here, they have all the nuance and intrigue of a rock.
And the protagonist just seems like such a Mary Sue – she’s beautiful, and all powerful, on the run from the law, but doing her best to help people – there doesn’t seem to be anything her magic can’t do, and she just waves a hand and it’s an instant I-win button
