I enjoyed this first installment in the series because it introduces an intelligent and likable cast of characters. It serves up entertainment and romance like classic movies.

John Pickett is a charmingly decent young detective (Bow Street Runner) who is far from a master detective but shows promise under the encouragement of his wry Scottish superior.

The pace kept me engaged and the writing was of good quality, minor issues did not prevent my being satisfied with the story. I listened to the audio version and enjoyed Joel Froomkin’s narration.
