I feel like this series went at least one book too long. It took me a while to get myself to listen to it and it felt like a downgrade from the previous couple of series when I started listening to it. I also found myself continuing to check how much time was left, like listening to it was an obligation.

Still at the end, the story of Oren does end. I guess there were supposed to be some twist but it ended about how I expected which is not bad, I liked how it ended. In the book there was one moment of diplomacy and one moment of new powers that were slight suprises but they kind of had to have those to get to the ending in this book.

Story proceeds as you would expect from reading the other books. There are bad jokes from Vic and bad singing from the aussie golem dude. Though mostly golem guy is missing from the book other than the one really bad moment I had to fast forward through as it devolved into a forced dance number like the end of the all female ghostbusters (I despise stupid forced dance numbers)but the 30 second skip was all that was needed. The story was long but is now done, though a “post credits” statement threatens some type of “darker” continuation (not sure why, but i guess there will be an audience for it).

Narration: The main guy does ok. He does voices well enough you can generally tell whose talking. The lady does OK but really has no range and all women characters mostly sound the same. I have grown to dislike “special effects” and music. The music in a conversation at the end I found particularly distracting and annoying.

Summary: I really liked the series at first but it faded over time. It never devolved into a complete trainwreck like some and stayed a solid story until the end, I just think it took a little too long to get to that end, but at least we did get a proper ending.
I would recommend it if you liked the series up to this point. I also will say this story maybe more compelling if you are listening to the complete series all at once. I started the series a couple of years ago and while listening to this I had that feeling of having moved on. I may revisit the entire series at some point in the future, but right now I am not “feeling it”.
