I’ve decided I might just have to get a printed copy of this instead. I love the Big Bad Wolf series that this stems off from. The story was exciting, and the previous narrator did a wonderful job giving each character their own believable voice. Naturally, I was excited for to see what this new Monster Hunter series had to offer. And before I go on, I want to specify I love Charlie Adhara’s writing.

However, almost immediately, this audiobook becomes exhausting for one reason only. The extreme difference with the new narrator has completely changed the entire feel of the story, not in a good way. I’ll admit I was only able to make it a few hours in before I gave up with this audiobook and returned it. I was spending too much time distracted by the voice to even pay attention. I tried as hard as I could to look past it. It’s extreme. The narrator reminds me of stereotypical upper-class and “rich.” It almost comes across as satirical, which this story is most definitely not. Characters are way too exaggerated, almost offensively so for anyone with an assumed southern drawl. The rest is…well mostly the same. Perhaps this was intentional to help match the overall vibes to Eli’s flamboyant personality, which I love, but this was a swing and a major miss.

Once I noticed the next book in this series has the same narrator, I decided I couldn’t continue this way. I love Charlie’s writing, and I’m still excited to finish reading it. However, I really hope the audiobook gets remade at some point with literally anyone else.
