As a Louisiana native, I was excited to find this series. The first book was fine, but this one was difficult to get through because of the narration. I get that some Louisiana accents can be difficult to master, but PLEASE don’t hire the most Canadian-sounding voice actors to read these books. It hurt every single time the male narrator said “aboot” for about. The female narrator made a 24-year-old character sound like a grandma with false teeth when she tried to use a slow drawl. I appreciate that she tried to make differentiations in her voice for the different characters, but they all sounded old and slightly toothless. Yes, it’s set in the bayou, but people down there do have access to dental care these days. And bless y’all’s hearts, it’s pronounced New OR-lins down there, not New or-LEENZ. One note for the author—in both books, the term “county” was used, but Louisiana has parishes. Sorry to be a Southern culture snob, but those kinds of things really cut into my enjoyment of the story. The story itself was interesting and I enjoyed digging deeper into the Bayou Boys.
