I wanted to like these two books so much and there was so much potential having the two together. Instead the writing style was very juvenile and the verbiage felt like I was back in high school, for the entire timeline that was supposed to span YEARS. The ideas and vocabulary surrounding sex were not sex positive, bordering misogynistic, and just gross. It felt like it was written by a high school boy from a small town. The narration was flat from the female and just annoying to listen to. More than once I looked to see how much time was left because I really didn’t even care to finish it. I really only finished the books because I knew I couldn’t leave a bad review if it miraculously got better at the end.
Also- trigger warning for sexual abuse. It was very graphic for SA at multiple parts and I feel like the warning wasn’t enough for the severity of it. Also the relationship as a whole gives domestic abuse vibes and a lot of manipulation and grooming.
