I got this book for free, but I leave the review of my own accord.
This was my first exposure to the cozy mystery genre and I liked it a lot. Once finished I immediately jumped into book 2 (Lattes and Lies). As a big nerd, I found Kirby to be a bit of a stick in the mud, but it’s hard to dislike him. He loved his Meemaw, builds relationships, and sounds like a guy who would be good to work for.
The story was short, but I do like that there was a lot of time given to character development in the story. Kirby grew over the course of the book, as did a couple of the other characters.
Again, as a big nerd, I enjoyed all the geeky references sprinkled throughout and it didnt seem too heavy handed, just enough to let you know that the authors are fans of various bits of geeky culture (you dont accidentally name a father and son pair as Tim and Damian Grayson)
The voice performance could have been better. Meemaw has a distinct voice, but pretty much all the male voices sound the same and all the female voices sound the same (just a bit softer than the male voices).
So if you like cozy mysteries, give this a shot.
If you are a big geek like me, give this a shot.
