Four books into the Jasper Falls series, a series full of terrific characters and great couples. That said, Skylar and Rhett are my absolute favorite couple so far. They have great chemistry, and they do get steamy, but my favorite thing about them is that they just make me smile. From the beginning, even before they become a thing, I was smiling and rooting for them. Rhett has some major self-worth and trust issues, and Skylar is perfect for bringing some perspective into his world and showing him what’s most important. We do get an antagonist that I really enjoyed hating, but that character’s antagonism is wonderfully tempered by an adorable little girl who is a total scene-stealer. The story leads up to Christmas and includes some hilarious moments with Skylar’s larger-than-life family. And of course, we get a bit of angst before the happily ever after. Lucinda Gainey gives voice to Pining for You, and as expected, she captures the feel of the story perfectly. From the emotion to the silliness, it’s all right there in her performance. This is a holiday romance, but no matter what time of year you listen, you can’t help but feel some of that holiday spirit.
