When Hap introduces attorney Veil to Leonard, it’s three ornery cusses trading zingers and the story of Hap and Veil’s meeting, told in order to convince Leonard to trust Veil’s legal defense.
“What did you do with the body?”
Once Veil’s mercenary credentials are proven, the short provides a 15 minute lightning-trial that plays like My Cousin Vinny.
“Especially Sunflower, she had this thing about clothes being inhibiting … she was goin to shuck drawers and throw the hair triangle around.”
This is a short story that’s more trash than class, so if F bombs and raunch aren’t your thing, skip it.
I found it a fun listen to tear through, even if I felt shortchanged on a plot that could have supported
a full length Hap and Leonard book.
