The synopsis of the book doesn’t do justice to the writing, yes that’s what the book is about but the story cuts so much deeper. Negative reviews I find all have a similar jumping off point, if you have lived a life privileged enough to not understand the nuance of child neglect, abuse and drug addiction that’s amazing for you and you probably won’t relate to this book. Yes there are problematic themes but that’s what is so incredible about this story, by the end of it you’re left struggling with your own sense of morality. I’ve resolved myself to believe that 2 things can be true at the same time. I loved this book, it was heartbreakingly beautiful. Very talented writing.
