There were parts of this story I liked a lot and there was some of it I found contrived. It’s your usual LitRPG fare with one twist that I saw coming a mile away.

There just never seemed to be anything real at stake. The central conflict for most of the story is between the titular character and her ex-boyfriend. But it never rang true for me. The whole reason they break up just seems too convenient to the plot and we never really get a sense of him as a person other than the stereotypical asshole ex.

Once she ends up in the game, the stakes don’t really raise and I never got a sense that anyone could lose everything. I think we may have been getting there and that may lead into the next book but I really would have liked for Akillia to have more at stake than just her pride.

The narrator never really brought the character to life for me. She was competent but I never really got completely into the story because I couldn’t make the voice match the descriptions of the character.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
