This was a tough one in my opinion. I think the author has fallen into the trap of the MC being too good.. in terms of personality, intelligence and over-poweredness. There just isn’t enough real conflict. At no point during the book is there a situation where there’s any sustained danger or conflict. The MC floats from one minor conflict to another, between which you see what a great guy the MC is by how wisely he runs his Princedom… basically turns into too much of a snoozfest.

While the author creates some minor melodrama where the MC gets upset about his people dying, he’s always assured by everyone that it isn’t his fault.

I usually like Soundbooth theater but I wasn’t fond of the primary narrator for this one. Maybe he just did too good a job of playing the earnest hero… which makes his overdone goodness that much more annoying.

Dunno if I’ll pick the next one up or not.
