I’m surprised this has so many 5 star reviews. I love this genre, but this was meh. I was able to finish it but found myself tuning out a LOT. All of the characters are relatively one dimensional. There are too many throwaway characters who are mesmerized and awestruck with Battle’s skill sets. Yawn. If he’s a good character, show it in the story. If you have to tell the audience he’s a good character, he’s probably not. No continuity. You can’t just forget a bullet wound indefinitely. Also, the “hardened war vet softened by whiny, vapid female” is just so old. Can we all just agree that from now on, these women don’t make it in a post apocalyptic world? The reader made it harder to listen. Every character has the same timid, nasal, pubescent voice. Bad guys aren’t very scary when they sound like pizza-face from the Simpsons.
