I got about halfway through this novel but could not maintain any interest in finishing it. Urban fantasy is one of my favorite genres, and I don’t expect every writer to be a Ben Aaronovich or Jim Butcher. That said, this reads like somebody’s very first novel rather than that of an experienced author.
The writing is awkward and wordy, dialogue unrealistic, characters are one-dimensional, and both the story pacing and reveals are uneven.
It’s a real shame because the protagonist and concepts had good potential.
