A great narrative read about Meade and leadership. I like detail in narrative form and this is among the very best. Never lost in movements of men or in retelling of events, it leads you play by significant play from Meades point of view,.
He sources details from so many letters of officers and men that give powerful realtime assessments that propel the narrative as well as assessments. I learn so much more than I thought I had already known.
And his after battle historical assessment/narrative was superior; ending it with General Hunts letter caps a storytellers touch on a great book. Highly highly recommend it for leadership students as well as Civik War and Gettysburg students; even a young academic looking for term research paper topic. Yes , narrator made it great too. I will buy the book.
