I listened to the audio of this book and not only was the story great but the narration was wonderful.
I really enjoyed this fake boyfriends to real lovers story. Derrick is Caldor’s best friend and he needs help with staging a huge welcome home kiss in order to undermine another sailor on the ship who is now with Derrick’s cheating ex. Calder contacts his younger brother Arthur (who secretly had a crush on Derrick when he was younger) to pose as Derrick’s boyfriend and set up a great welcome home kiss. All goes according to plan until Caldor and Derrick’s parents are there and invite Arthur’s “new boyfriend” Derrick to the upcoming week long family reunion. Clearly we see where this is going.
The story is sweet with some nice give and take by each character. There were a couple points I was in tears as the feelings being discussed were so heart wrenching. The ending is sweet and I look forward to the next book in the series which this book seems to indicate will be about Caldor.
Overall the performances were great and I especially enjoyed Joel Leslie’s narration. There were a few time throughout where it was hard to differentiate which character was speaking as the voices became very similar. I noticed this more often with Boudreaux’s narration. It didn’t really detract too much from the story as I could catch back on fairly quickly.
