I really wish I had time to physically read this book instead of only listen to it, because the voice actor made the listen through very difficult. He made everything sound whiney, meek, and pathetic. All of the sentences were inauthentically slow, like he was reading to children, with lilts and enunciations that didn’t make sense. I kept imagining how a good voice actor would have done it, yearning to not have to think and reimagine the story in my head, and because of this I had to keep backing up constantly because I’d stopped paying attention to what was actually being said.
Other than the poor narration choice, I did really like the story. At this point, the series is a litRPG staple and for good reason. The perspective and the juxtaposition between good and evil, light and dark are compelling and are what makes this story unique.
Bottom line – If the next book in the series has the same voice actor, I don’t think I’ll listen to it. It may be the case that I’ll put the whole series on hold for me to physically read sometime instead, though that could be months at this point. I would absolutely recommend the book, but not the audiobook.
