Having listened to the second Cozy Corgi Mystery, “Traitorous toys” last year,I decided that it was probably about time that I did a rewind and listened to the first instalment, “Cruel Candy.” I loved it.In fact, I had trouble turning the story off at night in order to go to bed.

In terms of the characters, I believe any reader would be hard-pressed not to love Fred and Winston; they are just so likeable, and Winston sounds adorable. However, it isn’t just the main characters that are excellent, the secondary characters are also delightful – I especially liked the attractive sounding detective, Branson Wexler.

As for the actual mystery, I already kind of knew who the killer was as book two, ‘Traitorous Toys’ briefly mentioned this case. However, that fact didn’t ruin the story for me, and I still loved following Fred and her investigation.

Finally, in terms of the narration, Angie Hickman did a decent job bringing the story to life. It took some time to get used to her style, but there was enough character differentiation in her voices to tell who was who.
