Robinson has proven skilled at taking genre fiction and adding his own twist. This book is a bit more of a stretch than most. At its heart, this is basically a godzilla story. Added on is a touch of lovecraft and ghostbusters. Filled with reference-heavy dialog and fast moving plot, the writing is pretty good and the narration is great.

My only complaint is I just don’t feel like this is a genre that lends itself to books or audio. The enormity of Kaiju feels very visual and when I was envision these impossibly large creatures, my mind kept shrinking them back to something I could hold in my head. Consciously trying to correct this so often took me out of the story a lot.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
