The show Avatar: The Last Airbender, presented some of the most creative ways for people to use elemental powers I have ever seen. The show certainly outperformed most comic books in this area, especially in the final episode! Why mention that? Because Blaise Corvin provides a similar level of creativity in his stories with the ways Jason and Henry utilize their own powers. It is simply amazing!
Corvin’s creativity is not limited to power use. He develops every character’s individual arc to such a thorough degree that they feel like they are my own acquaintances. We get to know each of them intimately, and even care about them. I am absolutely hooked on this series!
This installment diverges from the previous paths a bit, bringing Delvers LLC to a different continent. It also provides some long-awaited answers, while of course giving us more questions.
Jeff Hays is masterful within this genre. He embraces the opportunities to be silly, describes events and scenery in tones that make them even easier to visualize than the excellent writing, and intones emotions and dialogue with unparalleled believability. He is one of my top 3 narrators, along with Ray Porter and R.C. Bray.
