I really enjoy the idea behind litrpg, it has the potential to be such a fun genre. Getting to know the characters stats and watch them level, is what so many gamers do in their heads while reading anyway. With other genres though the author inevitably forgets abilities and asks us to suspend disbelief, ‘for plot’. It’s annoying and frustrating when it happens, when you are mentally screaming at a book or movie or comic that what just happened can’t happen, why is the protagonist forgetting skill X. It has potential… so why does every single litrpg series have to be utterly choked with the weight of toxic masculinity, misogyny, and objectification. Add to that the inherent Mary-sue that is the genre’s core pitfall and the whole thing is stillborn.
The idea needs proverbial generations to mature beyond casual messiah fantasy.
