The unmitigated change in tone from first person narrative, in past novels, to third person narrative, in this iteration, is a misguided and regrettable one. The pretense that we are hearing Watson share raw data straight from one of his beloved manuscripts makes for a style of storytelling which grows tiresome and amateurish… and very annoying… VERY FAST. OK OK so you tried something different, Mr. Millet. Well, it failed. Move on. PLEASE!!!! I can only hope that your novels to come will not be similarly ruined. Or shall I say: “ED hopes that LM will go back to writing prose in a style more worthy of the profession.”
