Over all, this is a fun series. I picked it up after finishing the Black Ocean: Mercy for Hire Collection.
As such, I already knew the writing style, and this was more fleshing out characters touched on in the Mercy for Hire collection than creating a whole universe from the ground up.
It does take a while to get into it, but I found it an enjoyable collection.
It’s not gripping in the same way Firefly was, but I’ll be keeping this in my playlist, especially for when I have long sessions of other things to do. This will make a great “listen in the background” option.
I can see where listening to this series by the book would be frustrating/annoying. Having the whole collection helps span the arcs between the books. This felt more like 1 big story with each mission being an episode, rather than a fully independent story in and of itself.
