I was really looking forward to hearing Aulay Buchanan’s story read with a Scottish Brogue. It had been a hot minute since I read the book, so I was excited to get reaquainted with Aulay and Jetta.
The story follows the typical romance pattern: Heroine aand Hero meet; a mystery / murder mystery to solve; mystery gets solved; there is a marriage and a happily ever after. What makes this book a page turner and a good read is how Ms. Sands throws in humor amid the hot, steam, and racy romance all the while solving whatever mystery pops up.
Reading the book was a much better experience for me. Unfortunately, the narrator selected for this book was not a good fit. Joel Froomkin’s regular reading voice was good. His women voices were awesome. However, his Aulay voice was horrible. The way he read Aulay made him sound like he was an 80- or 90-year-old man — not a virile 30ish man. In addition to sounding 90-years-old, Aulay came across as dim-witted at times and snobbish at others.
Because of this, I really wanted to stop listening after the first chapter. I stuck with it because I am fully vested in this series.
Another major annoyance is each book has a different narrator (except Book 8 which is narrated by Mr. Froomkin).
Overall, though, this was another wonderful story from Lynsay Sands!
