What Dinniman has created here is remarkable. I started this series a bit sheepishly. It seemed silly but I’d seen enough recommendations floating around that I thought I’d give it a shot. So glad I did. This story has unfolded like a bomb. But instead of becoming a mess it is a thing of absolute beauty. The characters are full and interesting and funny as hell. The plot is a well orchestrated page turner. And the narration, my god the narration. Jeff Hays understands the material perfectly and never misses a beat and absolutely nails both comic timing and emotionally charged scenes. I really felt like Hays and Dinniman are having as much fun with this as I am. It’s also clear that an incredible amount of work went into creating these books, so that Winnie the Pooh guy on Goodreads can get bent.
