John Pickett receives a mysterious unsigned letter summoning him to England’s Lake District. With his Magistrate’s permission, John travels there with his wife Julia under pretense of a honeymoon to find out what is going on. Pickett deduces that a man called Ned Hawkins sent the letter but before he can speak to him, Hawkins is pushed off a cliff. And if that’s not bad enough, Julia witnessed the murder, although she did not see the killer’s face, but the killer could still come for her. And John still doesn’t really know why he is there!
This one was not as straightforward a crime as usual, but Pickett takes it upon himself to solve the murder, which leads to clues as to what else is going on in the Lake District.
This series just gets better and better, and of course with Joel Froomkin narrating, you’ve got a winning team of writer and narrator! I hope there are many more to come!
