Z-Burbia by Jake Bible and narrated by Andrew B. Wehrlen turned into a good z-book. I initially thought crap, this is gonna suck, but it did a turn around not too far in and I’m already on to the second in the series. Recommend for all z-lovers. 4 stars for story, 5 stars for narration.

What’s it about? A group of survivors has set up a residential area complete with a HOA. Since it’s the zompoc, others want to take over, wreaking havoc on the group’s little community. You get z-action, cannibals, people who are crazy for or with power, fast-paced story (once it gets moving), a little humor, and more. Why the four stars? It was a little slow to boot and a bit meh-ish at the start, but stick with it and I doubt you’ll be disappointed in the long run.

The narrator, Andrew B. Wehrlen, did a great job and is why I continued on listening in the beginning. He nails the characters and general mood of the book. I will def be checking out other books by him.

Overall, I recommend, especially if you love the zompoc genre. I suspect the series will get better as it moves forward (I’m loving the second book so far).

“Great,” Stella says. “She’s learning from our kids. She’s doomed.”

“Ah, come on,” I smile.”We’ve taught them well. By the time we get to the Farm, she’ll know any more words than just s*** and f***. Right, kids?”

“Vocabulary is important,” Greta says.

“F***ing A right it is,” Charlie nods.

“The Farm?” Elsbeth asks. “Are we gonna f*** that s***?”

“Her suburban, bigoted mind just couldn’t even go there.”

“You see, Hoss, a farm can’t ever be exclusive,” Big Daddy says. “It has to be inviting. Inviting to the sun, the rain, the wind, the day, the night. It has to be inviting to the right kind of insects. It has to be inviting to the people that work it. Otherwise, it shrivels up and dies. A farm is a living breathing creature. It may not always be perfect; it can have its predators, its blight, its disease. But there’s always a solution to that. An inviting one.”

My neighbors are succeeding and failing at varying degrees ranging from “DIE, MF, DIE!” to “OH, GOD! WHY IS IT EATING MY A$$ FIRST?”

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: it takes place in the zombie apocalypse so there are things such as death, violence, weapons, etc. Language used: There’s no shortage of swear words- if you can’t handle it, stay away (my kindle says an impressive 214 f-words, 139 s-words, 30 damns, 43 hells).
