This series is a fun and easy listen. I originally thought it was a little lacking in character development, as it’s told from the POV of just Carl, and he is a good character but…IDK a little one dimensional and uncomplicated. I’m starting to see a little more dimension in this book.

The ending or epilogue is actually told from the POV of two characters other than Carl and I hope to see more of that in the future. It really adds layers and depth to the story, and finally I got a taste of the kind of character development I was longing for.

Overall this series has a clear story arc, which is a refreshing change from some of the other Litrpg series that have been recommended to me (okay one other series). I can see how the story of each book is leading to a climax at the end and I see an actual ending of this series. Which is refreshing for a Fantasy series.

Some of the other series I have read (including my favorite TWI) don’t really have a clear story arc. For instance HWFWM is a mostly enjoyable series, but I don’t think the author knows how to end it (other than leveling the characters up to the highest rank) and he seems to struggle to develop stories for each new book, so the quality of the story book to book is very hit or miss. After 10 books I think I’m going to shelve it until the final book is released.

This is not so with DCC and I find that refreshing.
