bHaving read the Black Ocean series, this book was a serious letdown. That said, this being Morin’s first series I’m not altogether surprised. This book is alright, but I wouldn’t recommended to a friend.
The general outline is alright, but dialogue is rather stilted and awkward, and some characters seem to change personality at the drop of a hat. Though some of that is due to Naramore’s preformance, as at times he adds a tone that doesn’t fit the writing. At times, the book suffers from a case of telling instead of showing.
If you’re looking for something to fill your time, this book isn’t bad. If you’re looking for a good read, I’d suggest skipping this series and going to Morin’s Black Ocean, which is a marked improvement in almost every way, including narration.
