I have listened to several of Boyd Craven |||’s books lately. I have enjoyed his style and how he focuses on the people rather than the event as some others do.
This book is subtitled “A Scorched Earth Novel”. This does not mean you are missing something from a prior book. It simply places this completely stand alone story within the world created by the author. There are no references to another story and it even takes place in a different part of the USA than his other novels.
This goes to the top of my list of Prepper stories that I have read in quite a while. I really liked all the practical advice and the presentation was truly part of the story rather than a manual for Preppers. This book was very heavy on the before rather than the after. I was over half way through the story before the “event” even happened and it didn’t even cause all the crazies to come crawling out of the woodwork. Sure people make poor choices. Some even think they are better than you. But in the end it truly comes down to Good Fences and Good Neighbors to make your community that can survive most anything.
