I’m a Franklin Horton fan. The first book was original and not the same old “I’m the most prepared person in the world and I told ya so.” It developed the characters and I thought set up the second book really well. I couldn’t wait for this book to come out. I just finished it and it was…meh. Nothing really happens. I know I said it wasn’t the same old prepper series but I don’t know if this is a prepper series at all. I was hoping we would see Dan getting to fight on the road or use his hillbilly skills to navigate a post EMP America. I was convinced that I would not be buying the 3rd book, but the way this one ended I’ll probably get it. The second book is just more build up, and isn’t too exciting. I like the gruff and tough Dan, not the sarcastic, lazy Dan that this book made him. And 3 stars is the most I’ve given Pierce. When he reads Horton he does better at not using his wimpy, apologetic voices for ever character.
