I’m wracking my brain to determine how this could be written, with such well-developed deeply disturbing characters. I can’t decide whether to loathe or love this book, but even after finishing, I find myself turning over its story in my mind. The story flows smoothly, which kept me engaged when I wanted to throw it at the wall (metaphorically, since I was listening). This isn’t a happy read, though “sad” isn’t an appropriate descriptor either. It’s a well-crafted balance of sadness and…something else. Triumphant, persevering, continual trauma that numbs, unfolding and refolding itself into a life. Definitely a great read, and I find myself confused-even after finishing-by my feelings on the characters. Excellent narration as well!
