I really want to like these books. The Author has created a really cool and interesting world. With so much mythos and lore with a really well thought out magic system/shop. The world building/civilization aspect in this book are top notch. The only problem I have is Alaster. The guy just comes of as extremely arrogant and patronizing. He’s a dictator who would kill you brutality for not capitulating to his demands immediately no matter how unreasonable.
I love hero’s who have a darker morally grey side. But who are ultimately good at heart. Alister isn’t that. That being said given all the chaos death and destruction maybe a brutal dictator is what the world needs to survive.
